Branson, Musk and Bezos are involved in a high profile race to space.
But here locally in Tasmania, there’s another race to space. And that is the race from residents of Sydney and Melbourne to escape lockdown and the claustrophobic atmosphere of life in a sardine can by moving to a big block or small acreage.
Some Tasmanians see this as a great thing. Real estate values are increasing, there are jobs for everyone and more activity and vibrancy. Others see this as a step towards destroying the Tasmania they love and pricing young Tasmanians out of the property market.
It’s probably best to embrace this change because now that many big-city residents have discovered they can either work remotely or don’t need to work at all, the trend is likely to continue.
Personally, I’m happy that as a local, I was one of the winners of this race.
