Here’s an extract from my book, Foundations for a Strong Building Business, that I benefit from being reminded about from time to time:
When my son, Lucas, was three or four years old he refused to eat vegetables. Every meal turned into a battle with us trying to make him eat vegetables and him refusing. Over a period of several weeks this degenerated to the point where he would gag and sick up his vegetables and we would give up in frustration.
And then I remembered the power of positive reinforcement. I purchased ten Matchbox cars and placed them in front of him at meal time. I told him if he ate all of his vegetables he could select whichever car he wanted.
He was “cured” immediately. Problem solved. He collected all ten Matchbox cars over the next few days and has been great at eating vegetables for the thirteen years since then.
