I recently attended a talk by Hawthorn Football Club President and former Victorian Premier, Jeff Kennett.
His view was that leader of any organisation should have a maximum term of 9 years, because after 9 years they have either achieved everything they wanted to or they aren’t going to.
Not a bad point. Difficult to argue with.
What does this mean for you as a business owner?
Maybe it means that you should step down as the manager and leader (and continue as the owner) after 9 years and let someone else have a go with some new ideas. This makes more sense if we accept that one of the key roles of a leader is to produce more leaders.
